Why not?

So I just got a new cookbook by Nigella Lawson and it had this amazing Chocolate Cake recipe! It is really great, just wanted to share it : ) This isn't the best picture but it will have to do... Have an awesome day!!

Sour Cream Chocolate Cake with Custard:
for the cake:
1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
¾ cup sugar
¾ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¾ cup plus 2 tablespoons soft butter
3 TB cocoa
½ cup plus 2 TB sour cream
2 large eggs
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
 Preheat oven to 350
Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Then, using an electric mixer, add the butter. In a separate mixing bowl whisk together the cocoa, sour cream, eggs and vanilla, then slowly add the cocoa mixture to the other mixture. Beat until thoroughly mixed. Divide between 2- 8 inch cake pans, that are buttered and lined with parchment or wax paper.

For the custard:
1/ cup of milk
½ cup of heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract( I love to use almond extract but you decide!)
3 large egg yolks
2 TB sugar
1 TB all purpose flour
Warm the milk and cream in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring continually, and set aside covered. In a large bowl mix egg yolks and sugar until creamy, and then beat in the flour. Add the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking quickly as to not cook the eggs. Pour back into saucepan and heat on low until the mixture is thick, like pudding. Remove from heat and pour in a wide bowl and tear off some wax paper and cover the custard with it, so there isn’t a film. Let cool, but DO NOT put in the fridge, it gets a weird texture.

Put one cake on the bottom, custard in the middle, and cake on the top. Sprinkle with powdered sugar!

  1. Wow! I don't like cake. But if I were a cake eater that looks absolutely delicious!
